Suva Harbour

Welcome to Fiji's biggest city on it's biggest island, Vit Levu.

Drua, Suva Museum

These are old double hulled canoes. Look at the size of those ours. Hard to find trees big enough and straight enough for canoe building these days. One man told us he looked for 2 days in the jungle to find a vesi tree big enough for a very small canoe.

Bilibili

These are a little heftier than the ones we got to ride in Lavena. They are used for river transport. Fiji has a lot of rivers.

Lures

hmmm...our lures look like this. just not wood. Maybe we'll have to keep working on that fishing dance....

Thrusten Gardens

Outside lunch break needed for museum day.

Wedding Dresses

Yeah, just a museum display but thought these were pretty funky. They are also pretty different than the woven dress our friend in Tonga was making. and making that tapas cloth takes a long time.

Mall, Suva

Ha. We haven't seen a mall in a long time. Cory didn't like the noise. But everyone liked their treats at the coffee shop in Fiji's largest city.

Dravuni Dock

So that's what those odd blue lights were last night. The partially done dock. We arrived in time for Cory to help finish the life-size jigsaw puzzle. The village was setting up for a cruise boat arrival. It never did come, too rough perhaps. It would have been quite the spectacle to watch 1000-1500 pple wander around a village of 28 families.

Beach, Dravuni

Yes. the village is now a little contrived with huts set up for cruise boat visitors to buy things. Yet we were told they often show up on weekends when the locals won't sell. Sunday is for church and rest. Saturday is for preparing Sunday's food.

Homes, Dravuni

Flower

Yup, the boys will wear flowers Mya gives them.

Run!

Nothing like some extra kids to pick up the pace. Bye Cory! Be on the lookout for the boys jumping out of trees to scare us:)

Beatle, Dravuni

Mya finds the bugs and the boys get them for examination...and a few laughs.

Pig Pen, Dravuni

This may not seem unusual to you, but we haven't seen a pig locked up for more than a year! Free range around the village has been the norm. Sometimes tied to a tree.

Worm

View from the Dravuni Hill

Someone once asked what we expected from cruising. Well, this is it!
That and being part of life vs. just looking in on it.

Mya and Daddy, Dravuni

Tropical Tree Forts, Dravuni

Rock Climb, Dravuni

Industrious Sharing

One boy goes up for a coconut, another opens it and everyone gets a drink. Not enough? Someone else goes back up a tree.
