Road to Labasa
We took the bus to the north side of the island. 2 hrs 40 min and 87 km. We needed the bigger hospital to have Cory's arm x-rayed and released! We also needed some kid passport photos. Again. It was a beautiful drive over the hills with some great chats with all the school kids getting on and off. We forgot to take photos of bustling Labasa itself. Picture shop lined streets, lots of traffic and a million colours on the sulus and saris people wore. oh, and imagine lots of loud Indian music coming from those shops too.
Mud!
Mud! This may not seem exciting to you, but we have not seen mud in a year. Coral atolls have coral and sand not nice wet dirt to play in! The locals wonder, but that's ok, our experiential children can enjoy. It's a good way to keep them occupied while dinner cooks on the hot spring. Stew in a pressure cooker if you were wondering. Breadfruit and ibi (nuts) under leaves next time:)
Visit
"Grandma" (Rupa) invited Steph for tea one day and everyone came back for a play the next day. Hmmm... Cory and Mya seem to like that sweet massala tea served with breadfruit and Nikil and Navish sure do like the cookies and apples we brought. Beautiful 13 year old Nayal thought some picture taking before dinner would be fun and it turned out we had a very camera happy group. Then Binu brought out the kava bowl and Scott and Steph got to learn the ceremony and try this interesting drink. Sorry Cory, you'll have to wait till you're older. Perhaps more cards with Nashal while we wait for the power to come back to cook dinner? Gita was very generous to invite us all to stay.
