Guests

We have gathered some visitors along the way. Some can stay, some leave on their own, and well...some are sent away. Yes, cockroaches can fly.

Road to Labasa

We took the bus to the north side of the island. 2 hrs 40 min and 87 km. We needed the bigger hospital to have Cory's arm x-rayed and released! We also needed some kid passport photos. Again. It was a beautiful drive over the hills with some great chats with all the school kids getting on and off. We forgot to take photos of bustling Labasa itself. Picture shop lined streets, lots of traffic and a million colours on the sulus and saris people wore. oh, and imagine lots of loud Indian music coming from those shops too.

Sugar Lane

Welcome to sugar cane country. It's the wrong time of year for a processing tour but maybe in a few months. I wonder how we get to eat some?

Shopping

We haven't seen many shops in the last year, but Labasa is full of them. Mya had to stop and touch hands with EVERY mannequin before she would continue.

Cast Off!

Not "cast off the lines" like usual on a boat...but cast off as in give me back my arm!! I think. That tool looks a bit scary. Let's go home for a cast away party and invite our friends for tea, cake and balloons!

Soccer?

Play in the mud? Play soccer? Just run and laugh? Who has that ball anyway?

Mud!

Mud! This may not seem exciting to you, but we have not seen mud in a year. Coral atolls have coral and sand not nice wet dirt to play in! The locals wonder, but that's ok, our experiential children can enjoy. It's a good way to keep them occupied while dinner cooks on the hot spring. Stew in a pressure cooker if you were wondering. Breadfruit and ibi (nuts) under leaves next time:)

Jean-Michel Cousteau

We anchored in front of the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort to do some snorkeling. This picture is their island next door. You can rent it for the day to have a picnic on a deserted island. We'd read about some islands to buy in the RMI. Cory now wants to know if we can rent or buy PEI too!

paddle

Cory went for a short snorkel but then the kids got fed up with Mom and Dad snorkeling, They seem to be happy again while we paddle around for awhile and spontaneously jump in for a swim. It is so calm and clear that Mya need not struggle with a mask to see EVERYTHING!

Hmmmm???

Visit

"Grandma" (Rupa) invited Steph for tea one day and everyone came back for a play the next day. Hmmm... Cory and Mya seem to like that sweet massala tea served with breadfruit and Nikil and Navish sure do like the cookies and apples we brought. Beautiful 13 year old Nayal thought some picture taking before dinner would be fun and it turned out we had a very camera happy group. Then Binu brought out the kava bowl and Scott and Steph got to learn the ceremony and try this interesting drink. Sorry Cory, you'll have to wait till you're older. Perhaps more cards with Nashal while we wait for the power to come back to cook dinner? Gita was very generous to invite us all to stay.

Sunset

Perhaps we should take a sunset pic everyday for 365 days?
