Jellyfish City

the harbour in Neiafu seems to have more than it's share of jellyfish. Happy turtles though!

Tuna!

Yeah for edible fresh fish!
To be perfectly honest, we haven't spent much time fishing. Hands full of kids. But what a treat to use the new lure and catch a tuna in 3 minutes. Four meals for us! Check out the retractable dorsal fin.

Hunga

What a cool place this is. It is on the western edge of Vava'u so outside it is exposed to open ocean swell. Inside this circular lagoon was glassy water. The entrance is only 35 m wide (see last 2 pics) and needs some attention but well worth the stop!

Finding Nemo's cousin

Appela

This fruit is fantastic. Hard to believe we have been here 2 months and have just discovered this yummy sweet delight. Why sell it at the market when everyone grows their own?

Clams

We didn't know which ones we could eat so we asked to trade for seafood (and get a lesson on local shellfish). This is about 1/4 of what the ladies brought later that afternoon. and a live octopus. and two branches of oranges. and a bag of lemons. and the most amazing fruit they call appella. and the list goes on! we were offering kitchen tools!

Olo'ua

Can you guess how they made the pier?

Warming Up

Believe it or not, winter in the tropics can still bring a chilly day or two. After a little dinghying and swimming in the rain, Cory and Mya warm up in the bathtub.

Mya

Mya checks out the aerial root for swinging properties.

Kenutu

This is the eastern edge of the Vava'u island group in Tonga. Off in the distance of the first pic is South America!
A bit wild and some cyclone damage over here.

Cory does Laundry

Cory usually likes to hang the laundry. It gives him freedom on deck!
He also likes to jump up and down in it to create bubbles. This day he really got into things...

Whales

Humpback whales come to Vavu'a to mate. We got a little visit!
