Arrival in Betio, Tarawa, Kiribati (from November)

Cory marks the way on his distance chart for each passage. The water is still beautifully calm although sadly is got pretty rough later in the week.

Neptune Visits (from November)

When crossing the equator, sailors must pay their respects to Neptune and honour his power over the sea. Mya disagrees though. She thought this blue haired creature could leave anytime. Cory on the other hand, liked passing the tests and quicikly stowed his equator crossing certificate for safe keeping. then it was time to wake up Dad and so Mya could tell him about all that blue hair.

Crossing the Equator Enroute to Kiribati (from November)

Calm seas, then a lovely wind to carry us across the equator for a perfect nightime sail with sleepy children. Calm seas in the morning too.

Baracuda (from November)

Thank you for your visit Mr. Baracuda. You and your teeth can go home now!

Tuvalu Airport (from November)

A walk to the weather station was a day's activity. It's just that it's across the runway. So what to do but get a photo of the safety' inspector's family standing on the runway. Never mind the aircraft...watch out for those trucks and scooters. Plane day is a busy time in this little place.

Tuvalu Ship Contrast (from Novemeber)

Walk to Rita

Rita is at the end of this island. It makes for a quiet Saturday morning walk.

Japan Benefit

The hotel has an open air stage in the back. The local schools, church and Japanese Club put on a fundraiser after the earthquake/tsunami. It started on time so we were actually able to see some of it before bedtime!

Fire

Missed the shot of Mya and Wyatt holding hands. oh well, yeah for fire! It's been a long time.

Peppers?

What's left of the red peppers after the minimonsters found them. Maybe they'll go on sale again...

Potlucking

The huts on the beach make for a nice potluck atmosphere. Hello Happy Monster and French Kiss.

Passage Planning

Mom made distance charts for me to move the paper boat along each day. This time I get to figure out the scale, do the measuring and write in the number. I think Mya should make the boat...

Taiwanese Battleship

The ships were in port for 2 days. Touring on one. Mya headed straight for the captain's chair. The helipad was the next favorite spot.

What to do with Four Kids?

Bury them of course.

Dress-Up

Mast Inspection

Cory gets a turn at inspecting before passage making again. The top of the steps seems much higher than it looked from below!

Where's My Hair?

He told the hairdresser to make it just like Dad's. Despite the face he loves it..mostly bc it is not tangled and does not require brushing.
